GuideDot

Blind people navigate spaces using their other senses. A public restroom is the one place you don’t want to use your sense of touch.

GuideDot is a raised map of the restroom, mounted at the door. Every wall, stall, sink, and amenity is depicted by tactile icons, labeled in braille and bold print, with an arrow marking where you stand.

A GuideDot tactile restroom map: a black plate with raised white linework showing a sink, urinal, toilet, dryer, and changing table, each labeled in raised print and braille, with an arrow marking the entrance.
A production map. Everything in the room is labeled in raised print and braille. The arrow marks where you stand.

Why it matters.

Designed with the blind community. Used by everyone.

  • Blind visitors read the braille.
  • Low vision visitors see the bold, high contrast layout.
  • Parents find the changing table without opening every door.
  • Seniors know which stall has a grab bar.

A small room with an outsized effect.

If you cannot confidently use the restroom in an unfamiliar building, you cannot confidently take the job interview, attend the conference, ride the transit line, or stay at the event past the first hour. Restroom access is about dignity and the confidence to show up anywhere.

Beyond the code minimum.

Navigability, not just compliance, is the goal. That said, every map is produced to ADA and California CBC braille standards, can contribute toward WELL certification credits, and may qualify small businesses for the federal Disabled Access Credit.

Proud to partner with

A finished map in three steps.

  1. 1. Show us the room

A walkthrough video from your phone is enough, or we can visit and scan it ourselves. We confirm some details, like which stall is accessible and which way the door swings.

  2. 2. We make the map

We turn your room into a map with our own tactile design software, and print it.

  3. 3. Mount it by the door

We deliver your map ready to mount, or install it for you. It is durable, high contrast, and easy to keep clean. Custom colors, materials, and sets for multiple restrooms are available.
